South Channel Fort Tours

Explore South Channel Fort and learn about the history of the island with a boat tour and a trip down into the underground passages of this 19th century structure.

Built as part of Melbourne’s defence in the 1800s, South Channel Fort was a military facility built on top of a purpose-specific man-made island in Port Phillip Bay.
Join our crew for an in-depth tour of the island and underground keep.
Learn about the living and operating conditions of the military personnel that lived there, as well as seeing a variety of gun placements situated to defend the position.

Explore a significant part of Melbourne’s history during a period of great growth and uncertainty. As a Licensed Tour Operator, Redboats will take tour groups down into the heart of the fort, where 100 soldiers used to live at any one time from 1890 until 1916.
